Welcome to Newburgh Nomads Running Club

Newburgh Nomads Running Club are based in West Lancashire, England. A no-nonsense club for road, trail, cross-country and fell runners. We organise the Harrock Hill race series. Join us for a run.

Harrock Hill Series

The Harrock Hill race series takes place on the fourth Wednesday of May, June, July and August.

The route is approximately 8.2km (5.2mi) in length with 90% off-road, taking public rights of way.  There are two longish climbs making up most the 265m of ascent during. The course is partially marked where appropriate, the remainder should be obvious.

We usually manage decent weather and a good turnout in excess of 150 runners for each race.  Our famed "veg box" prizes go down a treat with category winners at every event. Though you must be present at the prizegiving to receive your prize - no show, no prize!

Location

Farmers Arms, Chorley Road, Bispham, L40 3SL.

Registration

Race registration is at the Farmers Arms, Chorley Road, Bispham, L40 3SL.

Registration opens from 6pm. There is a good 1/2 mile walk to the start line, so please ensure you register with plenty of time to spare.

All races start at 7:30pm, except August which starts at 7:00pm.
If you retire from the race, please inform the closest event marshal or race registration before you leaving the event.

Single race entry

£5 per race. Same price for all entrants. Enter on the day.  Please register early to avoid the rush. Last entry will be taken 10 minutes before race is due to start.

Series entries

There are four races in the series with prizes for male and female series winners.  Enter the series at either the May or June event.  Your best three results are counted. Entry fee for the series is £15, so if you run all four, you get one race free!

Series runners must report to race registration in person and will be given a new bib number for each race. Please do not run with a number from a previous race, it not only messes up the results, it potentially puts yourself and others at risk if we don't know who is running in each race.

Rules

We like to keep things simple and enjoyable, but to help with everyone's enjoyment and safety and to ensure the race is properly insured, there are some rules that we'd like you to know about.

Harrock Hill races are insured by ARC and therefore must comply with ARC rules. For the avoidance of doubt, Harrock Hill is classed as Trail running.

Race specific rules are listed below (some may repeat ARC rules). Anyone found breaking rules may be disqualified and asked to leave the course.
  1. Race numbers must be worn on the front of the competitor's torso and fully visible throughout the race.
  2. Any registered competitor retiring or not starting the race will report to a race marshal and hand over their race number.
  3. Series entrants will be allocated a new race number for each race. The latest race number must be worn.
  4. This is an undulating race over rough ground. By entering, contestants deem themselves medically fit and capable of running the full course without assistance. Please do not enter if not fit enough to complete the course.
  5. Use of alcohol, drugs or other stimulants prior to or during the race is inappropriate and unacceptable. Do not enter or compete in the race if under the influence of one or more of these. Anyone found doing so may be reported to ARC.
  6. Competitors must follow instructions given by marshals. Guidance with respect to directions and road crossings is of utmost importance for safety of runners and other highway/pathway users.
  7. Spectators and contestants must be respectful of landowners property and livestock, must not trespass, must not leave litter, must not climb fences, walls or hedges. Competitors shall wait in turn at stiles, gates, or gaps in fences and walls.
  8. Spectators must keep dogs under control and on a short leash.
  9. Competitors are not to be accompanied by any animals at any time during the race.
  10. Competitors must not carry or use any devices that are audible by other contestants, residents, or spectators - no audio players, horns or bells. This is both for safety reasons and respect for other competitors.
  11. Competitors must not wear headphones, earphones or other audio devices.  These may prevent them hearing other runners, traffic or instructions from marshals. Hearing aids are acceptable.
  12. No support or propulsion aids are permitted, such as walking sticks or poles.
  13. Prizes will be allocated at the discretion of the race organiser or a deputy. The organisers decision is final.
  14. Only those who attend the prize giving ceremony will receive a prize - "no show, no prize".
