Lakeland Ultra report

The Lakeland 50/100 is one of the premier trail ultra events in the UK. This year saw several entries from the club, with several more attempting to secure places in the hotly contested ballot.

Lakeland 100

Jordan van Flute, Jamie Munro, and Neil Goulding competed in the Lakeland 100.  Jordan, taking on his first tussle with this endurance challenge, began fast, as did Jamie. Both had to dig deep to push through long periods when they struggled with food and water intake and the inevitable low energy that followed.  Jordan managed to muster the required strength and composure needed, eventually triumphing with a full lap of the Lake District in 32hr 20min.   Well done Jordan!

Frustratingly for Neil and Jamie, both no strangers to long training miles and tough races, they both separately ground to a halt between 30-50 miles for different reasons.  No doubt they’ll be back next year to try again.

Lakeland 50

Peter McNamee and Stephen Wilkes have eyed up this race for a while.  It’s a benchmark in personal fitness and traditionally “The 50” has been one for Nomads to aim at for their first attempt on 50 miles.  For both runners the last 12 months have been dogged by niggly injuries and setbacks, but a solid period of good training saw them both fit for the start line.  Quality running from both ensured a resounding success.  Stephen crossing the line in 10hr 21min and Peter following him home at 11hr 54min.  Well done on your first LL50 guys!
